Lace Cascade

This artwork entitled "Lace Cascade" is an exploration of femininity, delicacy, and resilience through the medium of lace. Inspired by feminism, this sculpture celebrates the intricate beauty of lace table runners and lampshade materials, traditionally associated with domesticity, and transforms them into a striking visual. The use of lace, with its intricate patterns and delicate texture, embodies the complexities of femininity, weaving together strength and vulnerability. The monochrome cream color palette enhances the sculpture's ethereal quality, evoking purity and subtlety while allowing light to play upon its surfaces with gentle grace. Each bead, meticulously placed, symbolizes the resilience and beauty found in the intricate details of womanhood, while the process of crafting the sculpture reflects the patience, dedication, and artistry inherent in feminine expression.

This piece is an interpretation of my life in an abstract form. Each shape was cut out to resemble a puzzle piece. Each piece is attached in a way a puzzle would be not glued or held by something else. Because even during the hardest times in life you are the only one who can hold yourself up. The marbles are placed in a way of being on your journey of life. The gabs and marbles that are not clustered together represent being lost or alone until you find your way back on your path. I wanted it to be able to hold flowers like a vase because we as human beings hold such a special place on earth.

Surface pattern ideas

  Surface pattern research  The general idea of a surface pattern design if creating artwork that is not in repeat. I wanted to take the illustrstion route and also incorporate photography. Which is a little different from other surface pattern ideas.  This is some of the things I found about surface patterns during my research  When it comes to designing for products that don’t often repeat, like art on journals or mugs, you may be considered an Illustrator.  An illustration  usually explains or tells some sort of story, so when the art’s main function is to make something pretty, it’s really more in the Surface Pattern Design realm. Surface Design (without the pattern part) can be a good catch-all for how to describe designing for mass-manufactured products that are both patterned and engineered designs
